Day 1: Saturday 10 Sept, 2011. Franklinford to Wooroonook.
This was the day we finally set off. Finished up at The Church at around 4pm after a big last day of cleaning and gardening. Drove to St Arnaud, played pool in a lovely old pub. Lily won 3-2. It was the first pub we came to and at first thought that St Arnaud was just a tiny, one pub town. It isn't!
On the drive over, we saw a wedge tailed eagle lumber into the air. It had been eating a kangaroo carcass just off the side of the highway and as it flapped its massive wings, it looked like it might be too heavy to fly. And then we were gone. It was dark by the time we got to the lake, but it looked good. Gum trees. An almost full moon. The water just a metre from the edge of the van. And hot showers!
