Day 4. 13/9/11: Merbein Common to Lake Cullulleraine

Morning on the Murray

Another beautiful morning: we both went for a paddle - the first time we've both had our green machines in the water together - and saw eagles, giant nests, magpies (chasing eagles!). Got back and had breakfast.

Now to backtrack just a little: this trip is a little bit about change. Changing habits, changing health, fitness levels, taking some new risks and finding some things out about the world and about ourselves. No hiding. Lily had said that part of this trip for her would happen when she got to the Murray. She would shave her head. Being a lazy wench, she got Tim to do it. Change indeed.

So she took her top off and wrapped herself in a tarp (to stop hair getting stuck in her clothes) and of course the very first thing that happened when Tim got the scissors out to begin cutting: a neighbour wandered over to say hello. Later on his wife dropped in. A naked chick anywhere will still draw a crowd!

Anyway, hair came off and now little Lily Buddha has left the monestary and GI Lily Jo has come out to kick some Mawson ass... and spread the good word about yoga. (All while studying editing on-line - you gotta be an all-rounder these days!)

Lily spent much of the day rubbing her head, but we needed to move on to find a shower, some power and somewhere to do some washing. After a few pit-stops to shop for food and a compass (no more getting lost!), we headed for what we thought was going to be a road side stop of no particular merit, half way between Mildura and the SA border on the A20 (The Sturt Highway for those who like real names). We arrived to find a beautiful lake with a stunning sunset, set off by the squeals and woops of a group of primary school kids playing footy, soccer, canoeing and generally having fun on camp. Good stuff.
