Made some toast, then a roast

Day 20. 29/9/11: Trees to Merna Mora

If it's a wind mill, does the bread make you fart?
A good night's sleep was had! Tim had done a fantastic job of battening down the hatches and we stayed quiet and still inside our cocoon of tarp! With Tim's foot swollen again and my hips and achilles a bit sore, we decided to have a rest day. We've booked ourselves into a unit at Merna Mora for two nights so we can clean up and have a good day of writing and reading followed by a 23 km run tomorrow. The unit is great - 1970s curtains, a super whizzing fan to keep us cool, an oven (yay! roast potatoes!) and a shower. What more could we ask for? We went for a drive to a couple of look outs this morning - the Moralina Creek and Blacks Gap. Blacks Gap looks like it'd be a beautiful river if there was ever enough rain to fill it. The Heysen Trail (the walking track that the Mawson Trail intersects with sometimes) runs along the river bed, so I have my doubts there's been any water in there for quite some time! Nearby, but not within walking distance, is Lake Torrens, which has been filled (with water rather than the standard hot air and red dust) just once in the last 150 years!

View of the Elder Range, including a whole series of
nobs named after the surveyor's male relatives!?
Female relatives all got different peaks named after them.
